Family hit by car while trick-or-treating

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A Colorado Springs family was struck by a car Monday while taking their daughter trick-or-treating.

According to Colorado Springs Police officers, around 4 p.m. 30-year-old Samuel Kinkennon III and his wife, Kelly, were pulling their 4-year-old daughter in a small wagon to cross east on a crosswalk at the intersection of Academy Boulevard and Parkmoor Villiage Drive. Police said 22-year-old Shynesia Harris was making a left hand turn from westbound Parkmoor Villiage Drive onto southbound Academy when she hit all three pedestrians with her Oldsmobile.

The family was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. officers said both parents suffered serious, yet non-life threatening injuries. The 4-year-old girl was treated for minor injuries.

Officers did not say if Harris was injured or if she will be cited for the auto-pedestrian crash. The incident caused southbound Academy Boulevard to be closed for nearly two hours.

An investigation is ongoing.
