WOODLAND PARK, COLO. -- People have already starting preparing for a winter storm scheduled to hit Colorado Tuesday night.

Woodland Park typically receives a lot more snow than Colorado Springs or Pueblo, and for residents there, they said the snow is no big deal.

"I'm ready for it, I was born ready for it," Doug Viles, a Woodland Park resident, said.

City crews had trucks and snow plows ready to go Tuesday afternoon.

"It's the first one of the season, so it's always interesting," Bill Alspach, Director of Public Works for the City of Woodland Park, said.

But he said they are prepared for anything.

"This isn't anything that we don't do and aren't experienced at doing," he said.

Alspach said they have been watching the sky and the weather reports closely.

"Every winter we get these storms, and some of them are bigger than others, but everyone of them is different, and we do our best to keep the traveling public safe and keep our roads safe for everyone here in town," Alspach said.

Snow is no strange sight for Woodland Park residents, who have become pros at handling winter weather.

"Probably gathering firewood tonight if it's gonna be as bad as everyone's been telling me," Ephraim Dozier, a Woodland Park resident, said.

With the snow also comes slick roadways.

"If you're new to the area just be cautious, and you can't drive like you do when the streets are dry," Alspach said.

Cord Prettyman, a 14-year resident, said the roads are the worst part about the winter weather.

"Slow down in the car, make sure they have their snow tires on. We switch our tires out on our regular vehicles to studded tires and I chain the truck," he said.

He said the best thing to do is stay off the roads and enjoy some comfort foods like tomato soup and grilled cheese.

"Get your water, and the food you need, and stay home and enjoy the beautiful snow, call in sick!" he said.
