COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A man who was arrested Oct. 8 for second degree assault may face more charges after the man he assaulted died Thursday.
Colorado Springs Police officers said 39-year-old Michael Sorden and 48-year-old Terry Span began fighting outside Union Station Lounge in the 2400 block of North Union Boulevard around 1:48 a.m. that night. During the fight, Sorden knocked Span to the ground, and Span hit his head.
Span was hospitalized with a serious head injury and had been in the hospital for 12 days before dying Thursday.
The El Paso County Coroner ruled Span's death a homicide due to a closed head injury.
Sorden was arrested the day of the fight and remains in police custody. The District Attorney's Office will review the investigation to determine if he will face murder charges.
This is the 25th homicide in Colorado Springs in 2011, and there were 23 at this time last year.
