TRINIDAD, COLO. -- Governor John Hickenlooper will be in southern Colorado Monday to tour a newly reopened coal mine.
The governor is scheduled to tour the New Elk Coal Company Mine near Trinidad.
The newly reopened underground mine employs some 280 people and has the potential to grow to 500, and it could end up having significant economic benefits for southern Colorado.
The mine will also generate royalty payments that will help benefit Colorado Parks and Wildlife, which owns surface and mineral rights at the Bosque Del Oso State Wildlife Area.
