COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach isn't saying much publicly about who he'd like to be the city's next police chief.

Current Police Chief Richard Myers said Monday he will retire in November because Bach wants a change in direction.

Bach is the city's first strong mayor and will have the say on who fills the post next.

The Gazette reports that Bach is considering letting some City Council members in on closed-door interviews with any finalists he chooses from an upcoming nationwide search.

Bach says a decision on whether the city will ask a consulting firm to conduct the search will be made within a week.

He said Wednesday it's premature to talk about who would be thebest candidate to be the next police chief.
