COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- One day after a 66-year-old woman was injured during a robbery, a man was sent to the hospital after trying to fight off another man who tried entering his home.
Around 9:45 a.m. Monday, an unknown man approached a 73-year-old man's home in the 6000 block of Whetstone Drive in Colorado Springs.
The unknown man asked for directions to a local store and asked to come inside, but the resident refused, instead drawing the man a map and keeping the screen door locked.
As the victim opened the door to hand the map to the suspect, the suspect pulled out a gun and demanded money. He tried pushing his way into the home, but the homeowner refused, and the two began struggling. The man with the gun slammed the homeowner's head into the porch, then fled.
The homeowner said the man got into the passenger seat of a newer model Honda two-door sedan with a sunroof and spoked wheels.
The victim described him as a white man, about 18-25 years old. He's about 5'6" with a medium build and wore a grey polo type shirt, grey pants and black shoes.
The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital with a closed head injury and cuts on his head and elbow.
Colorado Springs Police officers said they don't have any information on who the wanted man might be.
Sunday afternoon, a 66-year-old woman was robbed at Walgreens in the 900 block of North Circle Drive in Colorado Springs. In that case, 18-year-old Willis Jenkins and a boy were arrested after forcefully taking her purse and hurting her while she was shopping.
Officers credit the arrest to witnesses who were able to call 911 quickly and put together descriptions of the suspects.
