RAWLINS, WYO. (AP) -- Wyoming highway officials hope to finish work this winter on a bridge to replace one destroyed in a washout that killed four members of Colorado family.

A flash flood on July 19 washed out a section of Wyoming 130.

The family's camper van ran into the breach as they fled a nearby campground in the middle of the night.

A temporary, one-lane bridge has been used since the flood.

The Rawlins Times reported Wednesday that the design for a permanent, replacement bridge is almost complete and the project is on schedule. A spokesman for the Wyoming Department of Transportation, Ross Doman, said the best-case scenario is to finish work before the snow gets too heavy.

Otherwise, the work will have to wait until after the water levels drop following the spring runoff.
