ELLICOTT, COLO. -- An Ellicott school board member arrested for allegedly "sexting" a 14-year-old boy resigned Friday night.
A special resignation meeting was held for 37-year-old Stefanie Dickinson
Dickinson was the treasurer for District 22's school board and was arrested for Internet Luring of a Child Sunday.
According to her arrest affidavit Dickinson was sending sexually explicit text messages to a 14-year-old boy who attends Ellicott High School.
The text messages began after the boy returned from a trip with Dickinson and her family to Lake Meridith in Ordway.
The news shocked parents and other school board members.
"It crushes me to think that something like this happened in Ellicott. We don't know what's going on yet or what the end result will be. It's discouraging," Gary Lake, a board member, said.
Dickinson submitted her written letter of resignation Friday and did not appear at the resignation meeting.
The board voted to accept her resignation, which took effect immediately.
Before being charged with Internet Luring of a Child Dickinson was already under fire. She was in the process of be recalled as school board treasurer.
A petition had been put together, and more than 400 people had signed it.
The issue was slated to be on the November ballot.
