DENVER (AP) -- Officials say lab samples confirm a deadly multistate listeria outbreak involving cantaloupe is linked to a single farm in Colorado.
The state's chief medical officer, Chris Urbina, said Friday that listeria found in samples taken from Jensen Farms' cantaloupe matches the strain of the bacteria found in the 12 cases of the infection in Colorado.
He says testing of cantaloupe from other farms in Colorado's Rocky Ford melon-growing region hasn't turned up any of the bacteria, making it safe to eat melons from other producers.
Urbina says it's safe for people at high risk of getting listeriosis to eat cantaloupe as long as they know it's not from Jensen Farms in Holly, Colo.
The outbreak has sickened 22 people around the country. Two people have died, and two other deaths are under investigation.
