COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- There's a new ride in town, and it's bringing low-cost spay and neuter surgeries with it.
It's called "The Snipster," and it gives those who can't get their pet to the vet a new option.
"It is a mobile clinic that is gonna be performing spay and neuter surgeries on local animals, and we're gonna be bringing our Snipster to community centers in areas where spay and neuter services aren't always readily available," Erica Meyer, communication specialist with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, said.
For $10 the Snipster offers sterilization for cats and more.
"It's also gonna come with a 90 day cat license, and they're gonna get a nail trim and all their vaccinations," Meyer said.
Cat owners rejoiced over the Snipster Wednesday outside the Meadows Park Community Center.
"For $10 you can't beat it. I mean, it's absolutely wonderful, which is why I'm getting my other two kitties done in two weeks," Valerie Ingersoll, who brought one of her cats to the Snipster Wednesday, said.
Michelle Moss brought four of her cats and said $10 wouldn't even cover the cost of shots at the vet.
"They can do it all at once, and it's actually less expensive to bring them down here than it would be to take one to a vet to have them fixed," Moss said.
The Humane Society said the Pikes Peak Region has a huge cat overpopulation problem, and they hope by offering these services at a low cost fewer cats will have to be put down.
"We're really just trying to get people to raise the level of care and help solve the problem of pet overpopulation. The very best way to do that is to get your animals spayed and neutered," Meyer said.
Meyer added it's also good for their health.
"There are a lot of cancers associated with not spaying and neutering your pet, so it's better for your pets health and it can extend their life," she said.
Meyer said right now the Snipster is only offering their services to cats, but in the near future they plan to also include dogs.
