COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The holiday weekend was a busy one for Colorado Springs Police officers at their DUI checkpoints.

During a four hour time span at the intersection of South Academy Boulevard and Airport Road Saturday, officers said they contacted 741 drivers.

Thirteen of those drivers were evaluated, and six were cited for DUI.

One night earlier, officers set up a checkpoint in the 2300 block of Powers Boulevard, contacted 649 cars and arrested two people for DUI.

The checkpoints concluded the Colorado Department of Transportation 100 Days of Heat Campaign. This summer, Colorado authorities arrested 1,796 drivers for DUI, and that's just during checkpoints.
