GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. (AP) -- The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says a deputy who grabbed a man's testicles to subdue him was reasonable, even though it was unorthodox.
Sheriff's deputy Hassan Hassan wrote in an arrest affidavit that 22-year-old Samuel Fazio quit resisting after the deputy grabbed Fazio's genitals for a few seconds. Hassan noted that the actions happened Monday when Fazio fought attempts to be handcuffed.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Heather Benjamin says the move is reasonable, even though it's not part of the training. She said Fazio was not injured.
The sheriff's office did not return a call Thursday seeking comment.
Benjamin tells the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel that deputies are taught to look for opportunities to gain compliance quickly and it worked.
