COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A Colorado Springs maintenance man faces 100 hours of community service after he pleaded guilty to killing three cats earlier this year.
David Leisge pleaded guilty to aggravated animal cruelty and criminal mischief after he was accused of using ether to control the stray cat population.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) began investigating after people reported cats were disappearing at La Cresta Mobile Estates.
They found the bodies of three cats wrapped in plastic bags at the mobile home facility. Investigators say Leisge used ether to put the cats down.
Colorado Springs Police officers took Leisge into custody on aggravated animal cruelty charges in March.
HSPPR is working to control the overpopulation of feral cats with a Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) program, which was launched more than a year ago has already spayed, neutered, and vaccinated 945 feral cats, including 27 from La Cresta Mobile Estates.
In addition to 100 hours of service, Leisge was also sentenced to three years of unsupervised probation for criminal mischief and a three year deferred sentence.
