DENVER (AP) -- Denver police say officers tried to gain control of a man who died following an altercation with authorities at the Denver Zoo using a Taser but weren't successful.
Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said Tuesday that the police were called to the zoo Monday after reports that the man had threatened his girlfriend and had attacked a security guard. He said the man bit an officer and a security guard during the scuffle.
Jackson said officers pressed the Taser against his skin to get him to comply, but he kept resisting. He says the man began to convulse and stopped breathing after he was arrested.
Jackson said drugs were recovered from the man.
The man's name hasn't been released. An autopsy is being done to determine the cause of death.
