FALCON, COLO. -- Parents have to pay to put their kids on the bus, that's how Faclon School District 49 saved their budget-stricken bus service, but now they're focused on squashing a rumor.
"[Parents] were fearful there'd be no transportation based on the negativity in the article," Cindy Hardin, Director of Transportation for District 49 said. "We're here to say we'll be providing some sort of transportation."
This upcoming school year parents will have to pay $1 per ride ($2 roundtrip), and the district needs 3,000 student riders to cover their costs.
So far they're more than halfway to meeting their goal.
"If I have to take [my son] and [my daughter] is still at home it's being split up and having to be at two places at once, that makes it more difficult," Nicole Lewis, D49 parent, said.
Busing is a failsafe system for Lewis and the 100 parents that have signed their children up for the bus service over the past five days.
Transportation officials are confident they'll hit their numbers. They have also told the District 49 School Board they will continue to sign up students through fall break to cover costs.
As for putting on the brakes to their new bus service, that's not in the plan.
