PUEBLO COUNTY, COLO. -- Pueblo County Sheriff's deputies arrested a woman who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and tried to flee deputies before crashing her car into a ditch on the Fourth of July.
According to deputies, 27-year-old Mary Johnson was driving about 65 mph on South Purcell Boulevard in Pueblo West around 1:35 a.m. Monday. Deputies also said she was swerving all over the roadway, making it unsafe for other cars.
The speed limit on South Purcell is 30 mph.
Johnson turned onto East Spaulding Avenue and turned off her headlights in the 1000 block. With her headlights off, she drove into a six-foot deep construction hole.
Johnson's car rolled onto its side, teetering on a rock. Johnson was knocked out and partially hanging out the window underneath the car. Deputies pulled her body from the car.
Deputies arrested Johnson after she was treated at Parkview West Medical Center and charged her with vehicular eluding, DUI, driving with a suspended or revoked license, reckless driving and not wearing a seat belt.
This was one of eight DUI arrests over the weekend in Pueblo County.
