Fort Carson soldier killed in crash

CHAFFEE COUNTY, COLO. -- The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash from early Sunday morning.

It happened just after 2:30 a.m. on Highway 50, 23 miles west of Salida in Chaffee County.

Officals said a 2010 Toyota Camry was heading eastbound on Highway 50 when the driver failed to negotiate a left hand curve.

They said the car went off the side of the road, hit several trees and then rolled one and a half times.

The driver, 19-year-old Fort Carson soldier Cody Katcher, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, one of his passengers, 22-year-old Fort Carson soldier Nicholas Williams, also suffered minor injuries.

As for the other passenger, a 25-year-old Fort Carson soldier, he was killed in the crash.

His name has not been released.

Investigators said alcohol and drug use are not considered to be contributing factors in the crash.
