GREELEY, COLO. (AP) -- A former University of Northern Colorado doctoral student whose suicide attempt led to a standoff with police has been allowed to sell his guns to help with his court finances.

The Greeley Tribune reported 43-year-old Eric Nicholas Kinder can only sell the guns that weren't on his person or involved in the standoff last fall.

Kinder was arrested in October after a suicide attempt that led to a three-hour standoff with police. Authorities say he walked outside with guns in his belt and investigators say he purchased at least nine guns last year.

He had been banned from campus when university officials reported his "dangerous behavior" in writings and school work to police.

Kinder was sentenced in April to 12 years of intensive supervised probation.
