COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A 13-year-old girl allegedly faked her own kidnapping and tried to get her parents to pay a ransom, according to Colorado Springs police officers.
Police responded to the parents' house in the 4100 block of East Pikes Peak Avenue around 10:05 p.m. Wednesday. The parents said they had received a call saying their daughter had been kidnapped, and the caller wanted a ransom to be paid for her return.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit assisted investigators, and officials determined the kidnapping was fake, allegedly set up by the 13-year-old.
The girl had been at a friend's house and was unharmed.
Once the investigation is completed, the case will be submitted to the Office of the District Attorney for review and possible charges.
