COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Kids on Bikes is a local non-profit in Colorado Springs. On Monday, the organization awarded about 40 bicycles to fifth graders at Bristol Elementary.

The program has been ongoing annually since 2005. Since then, more than 400 bicycles have been awarded. Kids on Bikes award the bicycles to students who complete character based goals set at the beginning of the school year. Those include the ABC program, or the academic, behavior, and character qualities.

Nathaniel Martinez was one of the bicycle recipients.

"You had to do tests, make good grades, and turn worksheets in," Martinez said. "I knew I'd have to try my hardest to get a bike. I had to set goals."

This is the first year Kids on Bikes partnered with local Bicycle shop, Procycling. This allowed the donations to be given at a reduced cost.
