FOUNTAIN, COLO. --

Investigators are trying to piece together the events that led to the deaths of a man and a toddler after a seven hour stand off with police in Fountain.

Around 2:30 Monday afternoon Fountain police were called to the 7900 block of Gate Post Lane, where they said multiple shots had been fired, and a woman had been shot while running from a home.

When authorities arrived on scene more shots were fired and the suspect barricaded himself in his home.

The woman, who works for the sheriff's office, was taken to a local hospital.

The Colorado Springs Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office were also called to the scene.

After unsuccessful attempts to negotiate with the suspect, police sent a robot into the home.

That was when the bodies of the man and a child were found.

Authorities have not said how the man, child or woman are related, and no names have been released.

The incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
