MANITOU SPRINGS, COLO. -- A pipeline carrying water from Pikes Peak into Colorado Springs for water treatment burst Sunday morning, sending thousands of gallons of water into downtown Manitou Springs.
Officials said 125,000 gallons were released in the 800 block of Manitou Avenue, which forced them to shut down part of the road.
Officials with Colorado Springs Utilities said the water that was released into Manitou Springs is not dangerous.
Officials said in close proximity to the pipeline is one of the city's waste water lines, which they shut down because they believe it may have been compromised.
Crews will work through the night, and officials estimate the road will not be repaired or reopened until Monday morning.
City officials said most of the businesses downtown are open.
Colorado Springs Utilities said there is no danger to any customer's drinking water, and there are no customers without water.
