COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police have released the name of the man who was shot and killed by an officer during an altercation Friday morning.

A Colorado Springs police officer shot 22-year-old James Guy in the 1700 block of Auburn Drive in the city around 7:45 a.m. Friday.

According to police, Guy was firing rounds in the back yard of a home when they arrived. Guy pointed his gun at a nearby home, and the officer shot him once in the chest. He later died at the hospital.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office confirmed Guy died from the officer's gunshot. They ruled the manner of death a homicide, the seventh in the city this year. There were six at this time in 2010.

Police will not release any other details about the investigation. The officer who shot Guy is on paid administrative leave pending the results of the investigation, which is standard department policy.
