How to protect against identity theft

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Identity theft is the fastest growing crime according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

In fact, it is estimated that 10 million people become victims each year.

That is why is so important to take all the steps needed to protect yourself.

Katie Carrol from the Better Business Bureau of Souther Colorado (BBB) was on FOX21 Morning News with three easy things you can do to keep from becoming a victim.
 
What you can do: 

*Be vigilant about who you give personal information to.

*Shred all documents; don’t just throw in trash.

*Make sure companies you do business with (banks, mortgage companies etc.) use a shredding service.
