CANON CITY, COLO. -- Family members of a 15-year-old Buena Vista boy found his body in Canon City around 5:30 p.m. Monday.
According to Canon City Police officers, the boy's relatives, who live in the city, reported he had run away on Saturday. He was visiting them on spring break.
Family members found the body on top of a ridge east of Skyline Drive, but officers said the cause of death has not yet been determined.
After searching for him over the weekend, family members got assistance from the Fremont County Search and Rescue on Monday.
Family members told police the boy liked to hike in the hills around Skyline Drive, an area known locally as 'the hog backs.' The family members also searched that area over the weekend but didn't find the boy.
Police said they got information that the boy may have had a relationship with a Canon City woman. When police interviewed her, she said she knew the boy from contact with the family but did not know where he was.
Investigators from the Fremont County Combined Investigator's Response Team (CIRT) are heading up the investigation.
