HUGO, COLO. -- Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a 16-year-old boy for allegedly murdering his great-grandparents.
Deputies took the boy into custody Friday after he was released from an area hospital. The boy was injured in a rollover car crash Wednesday and was airlifted to a Denver hospital, where he spent more than a day recovering.
When deputies went to the great-grandparents' house in the 42000 block of County Road 29 to tell them about the crash, they found the couple's bodies.
The Lincoln County Coroner's Office said the victims, Charles and Laura Clagett, likely died Sunday night. Coroner Jennifer Nestor said they were both shot in the head while in bed.
Both were in their 80s and had been housing the 16-year-old in Hugo, Colo.
As of now, the boy is the only suspect in the alleged double-homicide and is being charged with two counts of first degree murder.
Hugo is about 90 miles northeast of Colorado Springs.
