COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Family and friends of a Colorado Springs family gathered Saturday night to remember a father and son killed in a car crash last week.
Robert "Bobby" McDonald, his wife Leslie, and their two sons, 10-year-old Jaden and 12-year-old Kellen, were on their way home from a family vacation when they were involved in a crash outside Durango Tuesday.
Robert and Jaden were killed in the crash, and Leslie and Kellen were critically wounded.
The family was actively involved in the little league community, and those who knew them said they will be greatly missed.
"I do not think Bob met a stranger he did not like, everybody loved him and Leslie, they are just gold, a tight-knit group and a tight-knit family," family friend and coach Eric Holstrom said.
Family members said Leslie is recovering from internal injuries at a hospital in Albuquerque, N.M., and Kellen was flown to a burn unit in Salt Lake City.
The driver of the other vehicle was identified as 51-year-old James Hooper of Cortez.
Authorities said his pickup collided with the McDonald family's vehicle when he crossed a median into oncoming traffic.
