GOLDEN, COLO. (AP) -- Helicopters and air tankers used to fight the wildfire burning in the foothills near Golden have been grounded because of windy weather.
The fire has been burning on about 1,200 acres of extremely dry grass, brush and trees since Sunday.
Jefferson County authorities say the fire has been creeping and smoldering throughout the day but it hasn't grown significantly today.
However, winds are expected to increase later in the day which could help spread the fire.
Seventeen homes have been evacuated. Residents of hundreds more homes were told to be ready to leave.
The fire is 20 to 25 percent contained. Officials suspect it's human-caused.
