COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A 15-year-old hockey player is turning into a star of the team and an inspiration in his community, all because of a handicap he won't let slow him down.
Luke Grizzell started playing hockey for the Monsters and the I-25 league just one year ago, but he's already starting to stand out.
"His skating has gotten better, I think out of all the kids, his skating improved the most over the season," Josh Pofahl, Coach of the Monsters, said
He's the most improved and doing it all with just one hand. Luke was born without a left hand, but he hasn't let it stop him.
On the ice, Luke can hold a hockey stick with two hands just like everybody else. Turns out he designed a unique glove that let's him hold a hockey stick and his glove works so well Pofahl's wife didn't even know he only has one hand.
"She's like, 'What are you talking about, there's a kid on the team that only has one hand?' The whole season has gone by and she still hadn't figured out who it is," Pofahl said.
Luke doesn't want any special treatment or extra attention. He said he's just a normal kid focused on playing hockey and winning every game.
"I just like to play with a lot of grit and kill penalties and hit people," Grizzell said.
The hockey season is coming to an end, but Luke is already gearing up for next year.
