ALAMOSA, COLO. (AP) -- Prosecutors have dropped a burglary case against a man accused of breaking into the home of a missing woman from Alamosa.

Twenty-year-old Jose Luis Meraz had been charged with breaking into 21-year-old Angelica Sandoval's apartment last November. The Valley Courier reports the charges against him were dropped this week because Sandoval was unavailable to testify.

Sandoval was last seen Feb. 23 returning from a trip to do laundry with her baby. She went back outside after putting some laundry in her house and hasn't returned.

District Attorney David Mahonee says the case against Meraz would have been dismissed if Sandoval is not found within the six-month speedy trial period. He says dismissing it "without prejudice" now means it could be re-filed when Sandoval is found.
