COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO,. -- Opera Theatre of the Rockies announces its 2011 season production, Gioachino Rossini’s comic opera, The Barber of Seville, based upon the revolutionary French play by Pierre Beaumarchais.
Presented in the grand operatic tradition, The Barber of Seville will be performed in its original Italian with English supertitles on Saturday evening, February 26 at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoon, February 27 at 3 pm at the Pikes Peak Center for the Performing Arts in Colorado Springs.
“This is the most hilarious of all operas,” said Opera Theatre’s Founder and Artistic Director, Martile Rowland. “We have been wanting to mount Rossini’s opera buffa for a long time and have finally found a cast to do it justice.”
Opera Theatre of the Rockies has the honor of presenting an internationally known cast of Rossini specialists, a number of whom are making their first appearance with Opera Theatre of the Rockies.
“I’m very excited to bring this multi-faceted, fully-staged production of Rossini’s beloved opera to southern Colorado," says Rowland. "This operatic choice is sure to please audiences of all ages. It is vocally dazzling and the work offers instant fun as the storyline plunges us into a world of trickery and disguise.”
