Fort Carson soldier dies out of combat

FORT CARSON, COLO. -- A Fort Carson soldier stationed in Afghanistan died in a non combat-related incident Monday.

Sgt. Robert C. Sisson entered the Army Sept. 1, 2004. He had previously been deployed to Iraq from March 14, 2008 - March 13, 2009. He had been in Afghanistan since July 15 and died in Kandahar district.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

The 30-year-old veteran won many awards, including two Army Commendation medals and two Army Achievement medals.

He grew up in Aliquippa, Penn.
