DENVER (AP) -- A House committee is expected to decide the fate of a bill that would require judges to consider a person's immigration status when setting bail.

House Bill 1088 would lower the legal standard of "probable cause" to a standard of "reasonable grounds" to believe someone is in the country illegally when determining what bail should be.

The House Judiciary Committee is expected to vote Tuesday whether the bill proceeds.

The bill would also require law enforcement officials to report to prosecutors a person they believe is in the country illegally, and bail bond agents would have to agree to forfeit a bond if a client is deported.
