COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- An Iraq war veteran is being sentenced in Colorado Springs Tuesday in connection with the shooting of a 19-year-old woman back in 2009.

A jury found 26-year-old Thomas Edward Woolly guilty of criminally negligent homicide Dec. 15. On May 10, 2009 around 3 a.m., Lisa Baumann was shot to death at the Cheyenne Crest Apartments in the 4000 block of Westmeadow Drive.

Police arrested Woolly and originally charged him with manslaughter. The jury found him not guilty of that charge.

Woolly also unintentionally shot himself in the leg that morning but made a full recovery after being treated for his injury.

Woolly served in Fort Carson's 4th Brigade Combat Team, which saw some of the heaviest fighting in Iraq. He was in the process of getting a medical discharge from the Army at the time of the shooting.

At the time, Woolly was the sixth Fort Carson soldier linked to a homicide in two years.
