COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A Colorado Springs babysitter has been arrested and charged with first degree murder in the death of a baby boy.

On February 10 police were called to the 3900 block of Patrick Drive for a 2-month-old who was not conscious and not breathing.

The baby was taken to Memorial Hospital where he was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit.

Police said members of their Crimes Against Children Unit began an investigation into the incident, and as a result arrested the child's babysitter, 23-year-old George Peters, for felony child abuse.

Then on February 19, the child died after being removed from life support.

Authorities said Peters has now been charged with first degree murder and is being held at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

An autopsy will most likely be conducted in the near future, and if the infant's death is ruled a homicide it will be the third in the city this year.

If you have any information about this crime you can call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.

You can also text CSPD your tip to 847411 (TIP411).
