FOWLER, COLO. -- Just about 45 miles east of Pueblo sits a town with a unique place in modern energy development. But that is not the only thing that makes it so special.
Wayne Snider has helped the town build seven different sets of solar panels, all of which power something significant in the city of Fowler. The need for cheaper energy arose when many of the residents saw their fixed incomes drop. So having renewable energy within the city helped drop some of the expenses. Now, Snider is hoping to bring a wind farm just to the north of the city.
The Fowler girl's volleyball team has also made the record books. For the past three years, they have won the state championship. Many of the girls have spent all of their school years together. Fowler schools also have high academic standards.
Mayor Patrick Christensen points out the strong character of the residents. He says Fowler is a hard-working community, and even during the blizzard of 2007, everyone still did what they had to do. Christensen says that people in Fowler can have the same opportunities as someone that lives in a large city.
In the future, town officials hope to expand nature trails and attract more tourists.
