COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (AP) -- An El Paso County group says a sales tax increase may be necessary to help fund local parks that have suffered cuts because of the struggling economy.

Great Parks-Great Communities says it will conduct a poll to determine whether there's support for a sales tax increase of two-tenths of a percent. The group then wants the county commissioners to put the question on the November ballot.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reported Thursday that lawns have gone unmowed and bathrooms have been closed at county parks because of budget cuts. Funding for parks in Colorado Springs has dropped 84 percent from 2008 to 2010.
