COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A helicopter transporting a patient from Cripple Creek to Memorial Hospital made a precautionary landing at Midland Elementary School on the west side of Colorado Springs early Friday morning.

Memorial Health System officials said the Memorial Star helicopter pilot saw a caution light come on and landed in a field on school property around 3:30 a.m.

Emergency crews transported the patient from the school to the hospital by ambulance.

A mechanic called out to inspect the helicopter found no problems, and the helicopter is now back in service.
