DENVER, COLO. -- Quiznos says it plans to lay off 69 employees at its corporate headquarters in Denver, starting around March 6.

The toasted sandwich chain said in a letter last week to Colorado labor officials that the layoffs were part of a restructuring of certain operations.

The announcement came just months after Quiznos appointed its President Greg MacDonald to be chief executive officer, replacing founder and former CEO Rick Schaden.

The company didn't disclose how many employees would be left after the layoffs.

In a statement Tuesday, the company said pressure from a slow economy was prompting it to reduce corporate expenses in order to provide more financial help to its franchise owners.
