FREMONT COUNTY, COLO. -- A 72-year-old woman died and an 18-year-old suffered minor injuries after a car went off road, down an embankment and into a creek in Fremont County Tuesday evening.
Colorado State troopers responded to the crash on Fremont County Road 28 (Copper Gulch) about five miles south of the intersection of FCR 28 and FCR 3 around 6:49 p.m.
They said the driver, 72-year-old Darline Manville from Cotopaxi, drove the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier off the right side of the road going north. The car went airborne down a small embankment, collided with several large boulders and rolled onto its top in a small creek.
Manville died while being transported to the hospital. The 18-year-old, Skyles Hill, was taken to St. Thomas More and was released with minor injuries.
Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash and have not yet determined if drugs, alcohol or speed were contributing factors.
