DENVER (AP) -- Bears could be off-limits for hunters while they're in dens under a proposal being considered in Colorado.
Colorado wildlife managers are considering banning den hunting.
The ban was proposed after a northwest Colorado hunter sparked outrage last month by climbing 6 feet into a bear's den and killing the 703-pound black bear.
Although no regulations currently prohibit den hunting in Colorado, other states, including Pennsylvania and Michigan, ban the practice. The den-hunting proposal is getting a first review and won't come up for a final decision until May.
The Wildlife Commission will also consider rescinding a decision to close two state wildlife areas near Loveland to dogs except for active hunting.
