DENVER (AP) -- Fireworks will provide the thrills and frigid weather will supply the chills this New Year's Eve.

KDVR-TV reports that more than 100,000 people are expected to watch the fireworks shows at 9 and midnight Friday on the Denver downtown mall. Evening wear will likely take the form of heavy coats, gloves and hats because temperatures are forecast to be in the single digits.

Snow and cold will be widespread, with the storm that started Thursday predicted to keep dumping snow across Colorado. A foot or more of new snow is expected in the western mountains, up to 12 inches in the foothills and from 3 to 10 inches in the Denver area and eastern plains.

High temperatures will range from the single digits to teens statewide Friday.
