COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (AP) -- Gov.-elect John Hickenlooper is looking for ideas as he prepares to take office with the state facing a projected shortfall of $715 million.
Hickenlooper says everyone has a role to play in finding solutions, including local governments.
The Gazette reports that he told a gathering of county officials that he'd like to see counties, cities and towns take over delivery and oversight of some services traditionally handled by the state.
He told members of Colorado Counties Inc. Tuesday in Colorado Springs that local governments are more effective at meeting people's needs.
Hickenlooper also suggested eliminating state jobs as employees retire.
The Democrat has been traveling the state to get ideas for dealing with Colorado's issues. He'll take office in January.
