CHAFFEE COUNTY, COLO. -- A teenager from Buena Vista is dead following a rollover crash Sunday.
The Colorado State Patrol said the accident occurred on Chaffee County Road 162, approximately 0.1 miles west of Colorado 285.
Troopers said a 1999 Saturn SC2 sedan, driven by 16-year-old Michael Dixon, was traveling eastbound on Chaffee County Road 162 when Dixon failed to negotiate a right hand curve.
The Saturn went off the left side of the road and Dixon over-corrected to the right, causing it to rotate clockwise.
The Saturn continued off road and collided with a barbed wire fence.
Investigators said Dixon was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the car.
Dixon was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Saturn's front seat passenger, 18-year-old Ronald Sheesley of Nathrop, was restrained at the time of the crash.
He was treated on-scene by the ambulance personnel.
Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash.
