Local soldier killed in Afghanistan

FORT CAMPBELL, KY. (AP) -- A 101st Airborne Division Soldier died of wounds after being struck by an improvised explosive device on Nov. 17 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan.

According to a news release from Fort Campbell, 26-year-old Spc. Justin Eric Culbreth was an infantryman assigned to Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.

Culbreth, of Colorado Springs, Colo., joined the Army in February 2004 and arrived at Fort Campbell in May 2009.

Culbreth is survived by wife, Kimberly Culbreth; son, Brandon Culbreth; stepdaughters, Katelyn Carbaugh, Mariah Bailey and Hannah Carbaugh; and stepson, Cole Carbaugh, all of Clarksville, Tenn.

He is also survived by parents Walter and Cheryl Culbreth of Wentzville, Mo.
