COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Police arrested 41-year-old Anthony Thomas Ganter Wednesday after learning that Ganter had distributed more than 1,000 pictures and videos of child pornography.
The Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit made the arrest.
In August the ICAC received 16 cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding the distribution of child pornography. Police learned that someone in Colorado Springs had used an e-mail address to upload thousands of images and videos of child pornography to an Internet website.
Investigators obtained search warrants and identified Ganter as the suspect. In the search, police also said they found more than 1,000 pictures and videos of child pornography on Ganter's computer.
Police also found Ganter had sexually assaulted as many as 14 juvenile boys while babysitting them.
Police are charging Ganter with sexual assault on a child, sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, sexual exploitation of children and failing to properly register as a sex offender.
Ganter is a registered sex offender in Colorado Springs. He had previously been charged with sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust. He was also on probation for identity theft. Police said Ganter used multiple e-mail addresses, which he did not register as required by his sex offenders registration, to distribute the pictures and videos.
Two of the 14 victims led to his conviction in 1997. Police said two of the victims are local and have been identified.
This is the 24th arrest the unit has made this year, and the 84th statewide ICAC arrest.
