AIR FORCE ACADEMY, COLO. -- Air Force Academy officials say they'd like to have a vertical wind tunnel so the school's competitive skydiving team could practice on campus instead of traveling about 50 miles to a Denver facility.

Lt. Gen. Michael Gould, the academy superintendent, says the wind tunnel could cost up to $9 million.

Private donations are one possibility to pay for it.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports that Gould outlined the plan Thursday for the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Gould says the wind tunnel could also be used by others, including a Special Forces unit at nearby Fort Carson.

Officials are looking into whether members of the public could use it for a fee.
