COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police are asking for the public's help in connection with an assault on the city's southeast side.

According to police, 53-year-old David Chess was found unconscious and bleeding from a head trauma around 3 a.m. Sunday.

He was found on the curb in the 3300 block of Knotwood Drive and taken to the hospital for surgery.

Police said Chess lived in the area, and the department's homicide/assault team is handling the investigation.

They're looking for a green mini-van or Honda Pilot-style vehicle with dark tinted windows and possibly Colorado plates in connection with this incident.  The vehicle's occupants are described as black males in their late teens or early 20s.

Anyone with information is asked to call the CSPD at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
