COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. --  A Colorado Springs program for the homeless in danger of shutting down due to lack of funding has bought a little more time.

The Resource Advocacy Program serves homeless people suffering from substance abuse and mental health problems.

It was preparing to shut down Friday if it couldn't come up with enough money.

But The Gazette reports that an appeal for help has netted about $9,000.

The Springs Rescue Mission has committed to keep it open at least through the first of November.

The Rescue Mission put the program under its umbrella a few months ago and issued a plea for $50,000 to keep it open.

The Rescue Mission says the money raised so far will buy time to try to secure more emergency funding.
