DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado Attorney General's office says it has indicted nine people suspected of importing as much as 50 pounds of methamphetamine from Mexico into Colorado.

The Attorney General's office says the group is accused of transporting the meth by allegedly concealing it in functioning car batteries.

Authorities say the meth was distributed in Denver and Larimer County.

Prosecutors announced the indictment Monday.

Among those arrested was 30-year-old Ramon Chavez, whom prosecutors accuse of being one of the leaders of the meth ring.

He referred questions to his attorney, Denver defense lawyer Harvey Steinberg.

Steinberg did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
